The Virginia DCJS 44E Bail Enforcement Agent course is the mandatory entry-level training for individuals seeking to become licensed as a Bail Enforcement Agent (BEA)—often referred to as a "Bounty Hunter"—in the Commonwealth of Virginia. This program is designed to teach the legal and tactical complexities of locating, tracking, and apprehending fugitives who have failed to appear for court. Complete the 40-hour 44E course at a DCJS-certified training school. 2. Pass the state examination with a minimum score (typically 70% or higher). 3. Be at least 21 years old (Note: Unlike security officers, BEAs must be 21). 4. Submit fingerprints for a federal and state criminal history background check. 5. Maintain proof of liability insurance or a surety bond as required by DCJS.
